Innovation in Capillary Gas Chromatography – Game Changing Developments in a “Mature” Technique

Dr. Matthew S. Klee

Agilent Technologies
Wilmington, DE

Abstract:

Even though the underlying principles of capillary GC have not changed significantly for decades, features and capabilities continue to evolve. Recent developments in hardware, software, and theory allow previously esoteric techniques to be routinely practiced today.
Improvements in implementation of Fast GC, multidimensional heartcutting, comprehensive multidimensional GC, and multidimensional detection will be discussed, with attention paid on practical implementations with current instruments. Considerable time will be spent on capillary column backflushing, which shows particular promise for reducing analysis times and improving overall data quality while providing us insight into fundamental chromatographic principles.

In traditional Forum fashion, time will be allotted for discussion of attendee problems/opportunities related to the topic. It is the perfect opportunity to have your toughest questions answered.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Matthew S. Klee is a recognized authority in the area of gas chromatography and separation science. He earned a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from the U. of Georgia (under Lockhart “Buck” Rogers) and worked in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries prior to joining Hewlett Packard. In his 19 years at HP/Agilent in both Marketing and R&D roles, Dr. Klee has made significant contributions to the development and application of chromatographic instrumentation and accessories. He is an inventor on over 20 patents and has authored over 75 publications in the areas of separation science, chemometrics, and spectroscopy.

Dr. Klee is a past recipient of the Chromatography Forum of the Delaware Valley Award. He is a Lifetime member and has served the Forum on the Executive Committee, as Program Chairman, as Chairman, as representative to the FACSS Governing Board, and as a highly-rated instructor in the Forum GC Short Course.
