About This Meeting

Abstract: Vacuum ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy (VUV) continues to solidify its role in the gas chromatography (GC) detector pantheon. The VUV detector measures absorbance from 130 – 420 nm. In the low wavelength range, virtually all chemical compounds absorb and have unique absorption signatures. Numerous examples of the advantages of GC-VUV have been demonstrated in a variety of applications. These include the ability to easily deconvolve coeluting analytes, to distinguish isomeric species, to rapidly classify compositions in complex mixtures, and to directly quantify analytes based on pseudo-absolute determination principles. GC-VUV has been applied for analysis of fuels, flavors & fragrances, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides, among other GC-amenable analyte classes. Further, theoretical computations add another dimension for spectral prediction, not generally available for other GC detectors. Overall, VUV is capable of both reliable qualitative and quantitative analysis, and it is highly complementary to mass spectrometry in terms of the information it can provide. Advances and applications of GC-VUV to date will be presented in this talk.

Reservations: Please register on-line at http://www.cfdv.org where you can pay by PayPal. You must register by 4 PM on Friday, December 7, 2018. You can also register by e-mailing Sheree Gold at sheree@cfdv.org indicating your name, employer and work telephone. Alternatively, you can telephone Ms. Gold at 610-742-4981 and provide this same information. Please note that “no shows” will be billed for the dinner.

Late reservations: We still want you to attend, so please call or email Ms. Sheree Gold at 610-742-4981 or sheree@cfdv.org. However, we cannot guarantee your entrée selection for dinner.

Inclement weather cancellation policy: Cancellations will be accepted up to 12:00 pm on the day of the meeting. Call Ms. Sheree Gold at 610-742-4981. If the meeting is cancelled by the CFDV, you will be notified by email by 3 pm.

Non-weather-related cancellations: The deadline for ‘good weather’ cancellations is 36 hours prior to the meeting, i.e., noon on Monday, December 10 for the meeting on Tuesday, December 11. Cancellations after the deadline cannot be accepted and ‘no shows’ will be billed for dinner if it was not already paid in advance.
