About
Barry Boyes

Dr. Barry Boyes is the Chief Technology Officer at Advanced Materials Technology (AMT), Inc., in Wilmington, DE, USA. Barry completed a B.Sc. in Biochemistry at the University of Alberta, then M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Neuroscience at UBC (Vancouver, B.C.), under the supervision of Prof. S.C. Sung and Edith G. McGeer. Barry worked at DuPont Central Research, then Rockland Technologies Inc., developing a variety of products and technologies for biomolecule separations, and peptide and protein characterization. HP acquired Rockland in 1997, which later became Agilent Technologies. At HP and Agilent Barry served in a variety of roles in R&D and Product Development, becoming the Sr. R&D Manager for Separations Consumables and Services, then the Bioreagents business. In 2006, he became the VP of R&D at the Edgewood, MD site of Smiths Detection, developing and commercializing field-ready biological and chemical threat detectors. In 2009, Barry returned to developing separations technologies at AMT, including the recently refined superficially porous particles (SPP) pioneered by Jack Kirkland. Barry has published widely (more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, reviews, patents and applications), is active in the areas of protein post translational modification analytical methods, protein and nucleic acid separations, and occasionally as an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry/Visiting Scientist at UGA (CCRC, Athens, GA), continuing long-term collaborations and contributing to teaching Proteomics and Separation Science.
